Home is where the heart Is..

When you think of your home, what comes to mind? How about safety, shelter, investment, and security to name just a few.

If a tragedy occurs, how important is it to get back into your home as soon as possible? What is your plan of action?

At Kouri Insurance, we only represent home insurance companies that are financially strong and have the ability to restore your home as quickly and as efficiently as possible. Need a place to stay? We will take care of it...  Need an emergency supply of clothes or personal items? We will take care of it... 24 hour claims service? We have it.

When you suffer a loss, we are there for you each and every step of the way. You deal with local adjusters and real people who understand what you are experiencing. Since 1970, we have been working with families in the Sioux Falls area to provide high quality insurance at a fair price. With Kouri Insurance, you deal with an insurance agency that has the experience and expertise you need to protect your family.

What you should look for when considering a home insurance policy...
Know the coverage form of the policy you are considering. The three main coverage forms for a homeowners policy are Form 1 (Basic), Form 2 (Broad), Form 3 (Special). Form 1 provides the least amount of coverage while Form 3  provides the greatest. Form 3 is the preferable choice for most situations.

Know if the policy settles your loss on a replacement cost basis or on an actual cash value basis. This is the difference in being paid to replace your loss with new items, or with items as old as the ones you lost. For example, if you have a five year old TV stolen, replacement cost reimburses you for a new TV of comparable type, while actual cash value pays you for a five year old TV. Replacement cost is generally much better, but it is important to remember that you have to replace or repair the item to be paid the full replacement cost.

Know the coverage limitations for different types of personal property. Home policies will limit theft coverage for specialty items such as jewelry, money, firearms, and other specifically listed property. The amount of these limited coverage's can vary between companies. Make sure you know the limits of your policy.

Know what types of losses are not covered. While home policies provide a tremendous amount of coverage, they do exclude certain types of losses. Find out what your policy does and does not cover and what options exist.

With any insurance policy, it is what is not covered that determines the quality of your coverage.

Tips To Save Money On Your Homeowners Insurance:

  1. Ask about discounts. Discounts exist for a wide variety of reasons. Some examples are seniors, owners of newly constructed homes, protective devices, type of construction, and more.
  2. Raise your deductible. The higher your deductible, the lower your premiums will be.
  3. Get an auto/homeowners insurance package. You may be able to save 5-15% by purchasing your auto and homeowners policies from the same insurance company.
  4. Just insure the value of your home and contents. The land itself won't be hurt by theft, fire, or other covered perils.
  5. Improve your home security. Smoke detectors, dead-bolt locks, and certain sprinkler systems or burglar alarms could get you a discount.
  6. Insure with an independent agency. Why go with an agent who works directly for an insurance company when you can have an independent agent who works for you?
